the diaper diaries- part 2

wow- thank you to those of you who commented on my first diaper post. i appreciate the advice, and the acceptance into the fold! ok- i figured out my leaking problem. well, i didn't figure it out, the lovely leah at http://www.austinbabystore.com/ figured it out. i was trying to go way low-key with the prefolds, just folding them 3 times, stuffing them in the cover and we're off. she informed me that this wouldn't work for an active 2 year old. she then showed me how to do a couple of folds and then introduced me to a snappi to hold it all together. i had seen snappies online, but i wasn't sure how they'd work. they basically have little gripper teeth and hold on like crazy. so i picked up a couple of those, some fleece liners ("to wick the moisture away from the baby") and 2 fitted diapers. I LOVE THE FITTED DIAPERS!!! they are easy and non-leaking- perfect! however, buddy seems to have problems climbing, running, and basically walking normally in them due to the bulk. we are all on a learning curve here! i also, somehow, came home with a new potty chair for buddy that looks an awful lot like a riding toy...hmm...how did that happen?

here is the diaper system i'm using

Hi Mandy! About your washing question... Some diapers aren't as picky as others, so you might just try it and see if you like it. Usually the rule is to use detergent rather than soap, because soap can leave a film that reduces absorbancy and causes leaks. It can also cause stinkiness.

Right now I'm just using All, which seems to work fine. Bio-Kleen works great, but it's more expensive and I haven't ordered any since I ran out last. Here's a detergent review link: http://www.diaperjungle.com/detergent-chart.html

The most important thing is to use just a little detergent and RINSE REALLY WELL. Also, be sure to rinse poopies in cold first, and soak for awhile in cold with your detergent before doing a hot wash. If you have time and space to line dry, that works wonders on stains and smells, too.

Oops, I meant Mandi. :) Must've been spelling my own (childhood) nickname there.

I'm so glad you figured it out! The fold does make a huge difference. And I love fitteds, too, there are just so stinking expensive. I have two right now that I save for special occasions, like going out of the house!

Just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your blog. Maybe we can meet in real life someday!

yes they will be a little bulky at this age adn I don't think that can be avoided I loved the snappis they were so much better then the pins and fitted diapers and covers are great. I liked to make life hard on myself and I used the pins and plastic covers for the most part with mine because I was overwhelmed by all the choices. once mine were bigger and walking i switched to disposables; however.

thank you visiting my blog and I hope to see more of you either at my place or at yours.
